 Giving Tough News

How to communicate difficult messages and decisions

Line managers have a difficult juggling act at the best of times; dealing with productivity, performance and achieving organisational goals can be challenging enough.  However when the going gets tough, the role of managers becomes even more challenging as they require a different skill set.  Managers often hate delivering difficult news or decisions and, like most of us, they prefer to avoid dealing with “scenes” which often results in difficult decisions being delivered late or in a clumsy way to the detriment of everyone involved.

This one day programme aims to provide a safe environment where managers can develop skills to enable them to manage their teams in uncertain times.  Using actors in role plays, the programme will cover:

      -         how to communicate difficult news and decisions with integrity, openness and confidence

-         how to deal with the emotions and feelings of those affected

-         how to anticipate and respond to questions

This programme is designed for all line managers regardless of the size of team they are responsible for.  You could be experiencing for the first time during a economic downturn, or an experienced manager who would like to understand how to tackle this part of your role with ease and confidence.
